3100 Fujita Street, First Floor PRESS RELEASE 08/27/2002 IDCT Announces 275,000 RPM Multi-Head Drilling with Vision IDCT Microdrilling Systems introduces 275,000 RPM spindles as standard equipment on its innovative LP Series driller, along with a new Vision Drilling option. The LP Series allows fully independent control of all axes of each spindle, making it the world’s first multi-head driller capable of fully independent vision based process correction on every station. This capability significantly reduces the negative effects of tooling, materials and process variance on the drilling process. The new 275,000 RPM spindle is the next generation of IDCT’s field proven 250,000 RPM spindle technology. The new spindle uses standard .125" shank diameter, ringless drills while providing two to four times longer useful drill life. Significant savings can be realized every year based upon drill consumption alone. In addition, the LP Series is half the weight, consumes half the electricity, and is roughly half the footprint of competitive machines, with almost zero dynamic loading. The Vision Drilling option provides each spindle with its own integral camera. Since each spindle is independently positioned in X and Y axes, it is possible to make corrections to the drill program for each work piece independently of the other stations. Compensations can be done for skew and stretch on a global basis, as well as subsequent compensation of smaller critical features within the work piece. Vision registration can be recalculated at every tool change, if desired, to provide real time process control throughout the drilling cycle. More information can be obtained by calling (310) 257-0690, or through IDCT’s web site at www.pcbdriller.com.
